An EGR delete kit removes the EGR in a diesel truckās engine to ensure that exhaust isnāt re-circulated and reused, which leads to much less power. Exhaust that isnāt re-circulated offers combustion, gas efficiency and improved horsepower. Without an EGR, engine coolant wonāt have to run via the cooler system.
The valve does have some trouble with soot buildup however. Given that the use of any EGR in diesel engines creates a soot rich environment, we have to learn to mitigate the problems it causes.
The valve on the left is relatively clean because it is from a truck with a failed EGR cooler (the coolant from the blown EGR cooler removed the soot).

If a diesel engine is not being pushed then it is not going to burn off these hydrocarbons especially with idle times like this where a truck will sit for 10, 12, 14 hours just idling. The EGR is usually located on the inlet manifold of the engine, although sometimes it can be located lower down near the exhaust manifold. It operates by recirculating exhaust gas back into the engine through the intake. The amount of exhaust gas mixed with the intake charge is controlled by an EGR valve. Typically, this voltage should be about 1.0 volt. Higher readings indicate an internal failure of the sensor. Next, attach your vacuum pump to the EGR valve and start the engine. Monitor the DPFE PID as you open the EGR valve manually. The voltage should increase, and you should hear the engine start to run rough or even stall, as EGR is added.
